Final Project Animation - Week 1: Intro

EXD300 Introduction

Week 1

In the first class of the second semester Final Project course, we covered the Module Guide, the Written Proposal outline, and possible Final Project ideas.

Notes taken in class, page 1, 2, & 3.

Initial Proposal/Final Project Ideas

My initial ideas for my proposal are to include learning and creating a 2D character rig in ToonBoom Harmony since the software is of industry standard and knowing how to make and use 2D character rigs are incredibly useful skills in the cartoon animation world.

I am also thinking of trying 2 or more different rigging styles. One of my special interests and personal skills is traditional art, specifically watercolor painting. As I have already created a 2D cut-out animation with traditionally created analogue assets (hand drawn and painted watercolor backgrounds, characters, props, and set pieces), I would like to make a second character rig, along with the first being a completely digital character, which will be made with paper and watercolor, scanned, and turned into a cut-out style 2D puppet.

With two differently styled character rigs, I can make character animation demos, lip-sync tests, and idle animations of both. I can also create an interaction between the two characters, demonstrating the differences between both rigs.
