Final Project Animation - Week 6: Interim Review
EXD300 Interim Review
Week 6
In the sixth class of the second semester Final Project course, we covered what the first Interim Review will require and how to individually progress in our projects until our Proposals have been given feedback.
Notes
Interim Review (will take place last week of March)
For assessment, I will present my work first for Interim Review and then later for Final Review. There will be more than one person on each panel including my specialist media tutor.
At each Review, I will make a spoken presentation of up to ten minutes describing my work to my tutors on the Review Panel. The Reviews are a great chance to highlight the best aspects of my work and the research that led up to it, and to make sure it is thoroughly communicated.
There will also be a Final Presentation that will be videoed. My EXD300 work and the video of the presentation will be sent to Sunderland to be marked or moderated.
General Advice on the Reviews
For the presentation, you may wish to prepare brief bullet points or notes to help organize your thoughts, and to make sure you don't forget to highlight key points about your work.
This may be supported with a PowerPoint, or other screen based presentation.
- Remember that some of the staff will never have seen your work before, so you may want to start with a brief introduction of the context and purpose of the project.
- Briefly explain and show the main research findings / influences so far and how they have guided the direction of your work (keep this short).
- Briefly explain the main concept / strategies for your work, the likely audience (if there is one), and the message or idea that you are trying to convey.
- Show your work.
- This is your opportunity to talk about what is good / fresh / innovative about your work and the thinking behind it. Consider this carefully in advance and use the opportunity well.
- Remember that your performance at the Review (i.e. the way you present your work) is NOT being assessed. The Review is simply an opportunity for you to clarify, explain and highlight the best elements of your work. You can explain your design decisions and directly answer any questions that staff may have about your ideas, process & final pieces.
- Make sure to leave enough time to show the actual work (or work-in-progress for the Interim Reviews).
- Organize your files and set up your computer, etc. in advance of the Review. You will see from the schedules that times are very tight for each Review so once your time starts, you don’t want to waste it setting things up, when you could have done that beforehand.
Interim Reviews will act as an important checkpoint for your work. They will take the same format as the Final Reviews, so that you can practice talking about your work within the allocated time. This should give you a better idea of what you need to prepare, and how best to fit all the key points that you want to make, into the Final Reviews.
Please note:
- It is expected that at Ιnterim Reviews, some staff or external industry guests may be seeing your work for the first time, and may give you a fresh perspective on your project. Your specialist tutor will also be there to advise.
- Staff in Interim Reviews will be polite but honest about where you are in terms of progress through the module and the perceived quality or quantity of your work. You should take any criticism in the constructive way it is intended.
- Past students have commented strongly on just how useful this can be at this critical mid-point in the module.
Things to do until then:
- Analogue puppet design concepts
- Color palette
- Film name ideas
- Background / environment mood board
- Concept thumbnails (storyboard panels)
